I created my piece in the book after a conversation with my two older sisters which revealed the various ways we each encountered, and subsequently “hid” our early experiences of sexuality and our own bodies in our childhood home.

Our mother’s one line teaching about the Danger of Biology, and being handed a book called Take the High Road, were the extent of our lessons about sex. It was with great delight that I found a copy of that horrible little book on Amazon, and used messages straight from the book in my work. Just as Little Women is a celebration of sisters’ differences, so is my piece.

I chose to insert mine in the chapter called “Secrets,” for this is the terrain in which sex was shrouded.
